How can I write a more interesting bio?
Is your bio a little boring? Having trouble with deciding what to write? Need a little inspiration to help you write a better bio?
Try using a theme to differentiate yourself from your competitors, stand out and promote your personal brand. It is also a great way to drive your message and provide your audience with some inspiration.
A theme is a unifying ideal or recurrent element that you can pull from a movie, fictional character, a song or a hobby. Find a theme that represents your unique, authentic self and promotes your brand.
Comparing your work to a themed character can help the audience better conceptualize your potential role in their lives. In his bio, Ed O’Brien, makes one reference about James Bond in the opening paragraph, “Like James Bond, he can remain a calm figure when “exotic things happen to and around him.””
That one statement and the keywords and phrases that are sprinkled through the body of the bio draws a parallel between Ed and James Bond who has a reputation for taking on insurmountable challenges but always comes out the victor against all odds.
After reading Ed’s bio you can easily conclude that he is the best at what he does, and he actually sounds like the James Bond of Human Resources.
If you do not relate to a fictional character then use a hobby or a sport, like skydiving or football as inspiration to write. The key is to use the hobby metaphorically to describe your skills and character.
However, when you write your bio, use plain English and do not get carried away by being too verbose.
